Preliminary Round (Group C), 1980 Olympic Basketball
July 23, 1980 · Moscow, Soviet Union
Preliminary Round (Group C), 1980 Olympic Basketball: Italy 79–72 Cuba, at Moscow, Soviet Union on July 23, 1980.
This result carried forward into the Final Round medal pool's standings rather than being replayed. This left Italy, Cuba, and Australia tied 2-1 in a head-to-head cycle (Italy beat Cuba, Cuba beat Australia, Australia beat Italy) — resolved via cross-referencing which teams actually advanced to the Final Round medal pool (Italy, Cuba) versus the Classification Round (Australia), not by independently deriving the tiebreak criterion (likely point differential, not confirmed by any source found).
