Franchise history

The Anderson Packers began after World War II as the semipro Anderson Chiefs before meatpacking-company owners Ike and John Duffey rebranded the club the Anderson Duffey Packers and entered the National Basketball League in 1946. Anderson improved over three NBL seasons and won the league's final championship in 1948-49, just before the NBL merged into the BAA to form the modern NBA in 1949. In their lone 1949-50 NBA season Anderson went 37-27 and reached the Finals before losing 2-0 to the Minneapolis Lakers; a November 1949 quintuple-overtime loss to Syracuse, decided 125-123, set league records for overtime periods and fouls in a game. Despite that competitive season, the Duffeys withdrew the franchise from the NBA on April 10, 1950, citing Ike Duffey's poor health, and briefly continued the Packers in the minor National Professional Basketball League before it folded. There is no continuing NBA lineage.
