BBBaltimore Bullets — 1 nba champions (1947-48).
Franchise history
This Baltimore Bullets franchise traces to the Chicago Packers, an NBA expansion team founded in 1961 that became the Chicago Zephyrs after one season, then relocated to Baltimore in 1963 — reviving a nickname previously used by an earlier, unrelated Baltimore Bullets club that played 1947-1954 before folding. The "new" Bullets struggled through the mid-1960s but improved dramatically after drafting Gus Johnson (1963), Earl "the Pearl" Monroe (1967), and Wes Unseld (1968), with Unseld winning both Rookie of the Year and league MVP in 1968-69.
Under coach Gene Shue, Baltimore reached the 1971 Finals but was swept 4-0 by a Milwaukee Bucks team led by a young Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson — one of the more startling sweeps in Finals history given how competitive Baltimore had been all season. Monroe was traded to the Knicks in 1971 amid contract friction. Following the 1972-73 season, owner Abe Pollin moved the franchise to the Washington, D.C. area, ending the Baltimore chapter.
