Franchise history

The Detroit Falcons were a charter member of the Basketball Association of America's inaugural 1946-47 season, the league that became the NBA in 1949; the franchise had originally been slated for Indianapolis before shifting to Detroit ahead of opening night. Detroit finished 20-40, fourth in the Western Division, well out of playoff contention, and went through two head coaches, Glenn Curtis and Philip Sachs. Forward Stan Miasek led the team at 14.9 points per game and made the First Team All-BAA. Like most of the BAA's weaker inaugural markets, the Falcons lost money and drew poorly, and the franchise withdrew from the league on July 9, 1947, with the BAA formally cancelling it the following year. There was no relocation; Detroit had no top-level pro team again until the Fort Wayne Pistons moved there in 1957.
