P7Philadelphia 76ers — 2 nba champions (1966-67, 1982-83).
Franchise history
The 76ers franchise, in its Philadelphia incarnation, dates to March 26, 1963, when investors purchased the Syracuse Nationals and relocated the team, renaming it the "76ers" in honor of the city's role in the 1776 Declaration of Independence. The new franchise's fortunes turned sharply after it acquired Wilt Chamberlain in 1965. Under coach Alex Hannum, the 1966-67 76ers posted a then-record 68-13 mark, dethroned the eight-time-defending-champion Boston Celtics, and beat San Francisco for the franchise's second NBA title overall.
After trading Chamberlain in 1968, the team collapsed to a league-worst 9-73 in 1972-73. Recovery came via Julius Erving (acquired 1976) and Moses Malone (added 1982) — Malone's playoff prediction of "fo', fo', fo'" nearly came true as Philadelphia went 12-1 and swept the Lakers for the franchise's third title. Allen Iverson led the 2000-01 team to the Finals, losing to the Lakers. General manager Sam Hinkie's 2013 rebuild — dubbed "Trust the Process" — yielded stars Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, though no title has followed.
