PTBPortland Trail Blazers — 1 nba champions (1976-77).
Franchise history
The Trail Blazers joined the NBA in 1970 as an expansion franchise, struggling through their first several seasons before landing the No. 1 overall pick in 1974, Bill Walton. Walton's ascension, paired with the 1976 acquisition of Maurice Lucas and the hiring of coach Jack Ramsay, transformed the franchise almost overnight: Portland won the 1977 NBA championship over Philadelphia, igniting "Blazermania," a wave of civic fervor that kept every home game sold out for decades.
Injuries to Walton derailed a potential dynasty, but Portland remained competitive through the 1980s and reached new heights in the late 1980s and early 1990s behind Clyde Drexler, one of the era's most electrifying guards. Under coach Rick Adelman, the Drexler-led Blazers reached the Finals in both 1990 (lost to Detroit) and 1992 (lost to Michael Jordan's Bulls). Since Drexler's departure in 1995, Portland has remained a frequent playoff participant but has not returned to the Finals, making 1977 the franchise's only championship.
