The Ashes
The oldest and most storied rivalry in Test cricket, contested between England and Australia in the multi-day Test format, alternating host countries roughly every two years. Named for a small terracotta urn exchanged between the two boards, its origin traces to a satirical 1882 newspaper obituary mourning "the death of English cricket" after England's home defeat to Australia that year. Predates the ICC's 1909 founding (as the Imperial Cricket Conference) by decades.
