Overview
Kohli succeeded MS Dhoni as India's Test captain in 2014 and built a reputation as one of the most relentlessly competitive and physically demanding leaders the format has seen, before stepping back from captaincy across formats between 2021 and 2022. Known for his intensity in run-chases in particular, he has repeatedly been rated by teammates and opponents alike as the modern era's best ODI chaser of a target. His long, high-profile IPL career has been spent entirely with a single franchise (Royal Challengers Bengaluru, formerly Bangalore), whom he finally led to their first title in 2025 after 17 title-less seasons together.
