Country history
The UAE plays a larger role in international cricket as a neutral host than as a competing side — Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah regularly stage matches (including Pakistan's home fixtures for extended periods, and India-Pakistan meetings at ICC events) when political circumstances rule out hosting in the competing nations themselves. The UAE hosted the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup in full, moved there from India because of COVID-19. As a playing nation, the UAE holds ODI status and has appeared in the Cricket World Cup (1996, 2015) and multiple T20 World Cups.
Sourcing caveat: The UAE did not host the 2014 Men's T20 World Cup — that edition was held in Bangladesh; the UAE's major hosting duty was the 2021 edition.
