Semi-final 1 — 1987 Cricket World Cup
November 4, 1987 · Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore
Result: AUAustralia — Australia won by 18 runs. AUAustralia 267/8 (50 overs), PAPakistan 249 all out (49 overs). November 4, 1987 · Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
A heartbreaking home defeat for co-hosts Pakistan, eliminating the possibility of a widely-anticipated India-Pakistan final. Steve Waugh's unbeaten 32 in a final over that cost Saleem Jaffar 18 runs proved pivotal — Pakistan lost by exactly that margin. Widely reported as Imran Khan's expected farewell match (banners in the crowd read "IMRAN WE'LL MISS YOU") before he reversed his retirement decision and led Pakistan to the 1992 title instead.
