Group stage (Pool B) — 2003 Cricket World Cup
March 3, 2003 · Kingsmead, Durban
Result: Match tied. SLSri Lanka 268/9 (50 overs), SASouth Africa 229/6 (45 overs, rain). March 3, 2003 · Kingsmead, Durban.
One of the most famous incidents in Cricket World Cup history: rain ended play with South Africa on 229/6 off 45 overs, needing 230 (not 229) to win under the printed Duckworth–Lewis sheet. Mark Boucher, misreading the target as already achieved, blocked the final ball rather than attempting the extra run, settling for a tie when a win was still available. The result eliminated the host nation South Africa from Super Six qualification.
