Match report
The opening fixture of the 1975 World Championship Series (that year's Rugby League World Cup), played at the Stade Municipal, Toulouse. Unlike modern World Cups, the 1975 tournament had no single host: France, England, Wales, Australia and New Zealand played each other home-and-away across the year, with the winner determined on points across all matches. France won 14-7, scoring two tries (Bernard Curt, René Terrats), three goals (Victor Serrano) and two field goals (Jean-Marie Imbert, Jean-Pierre Lacoste) -- an unusual scoring split reflecting the try=3/goal=2/field-goal=1 points system of the era.
Wales replied with a try to centre Frank Wilson and two Kel Coslett goals. France went on to lose away to England later that month and were eliminated from title contention after this round, eventually finishing fourth in the overall standings. Wales progressed to further fixtures on their wider World Cup campaign.
