Group stage standings
Groups A, B and C were straightforward 3-team round-robins, each producing a clean win/loss record. Group D is presented differently and deliberately: Pakistan beat Scotland, then Pakistan tied with India (a match ultimately decided by cricket's first-ever T20 World Cup bowl-out, which India won 3-0), while India's other group match (against Scotland) was abandoned for rain with no result. Both India and Pakistan advanced from Group D regardless of the bowl-out's outcome — Scotland's elimination was never in question — so 'won'/'lost' figures for Pakistan and India above reflect only the Scotland results (Pakistan beat them, India's match against them had no result); their head-to-head tie and its bowl-out are described in Match 10's own notes rather than forced into this table's win/loss columns. Group NRR figures for Pakistan, India and Scotland were not found published to this site's sourcing standard and are left as 'not confirmed' rather than guessed at.

Both Super 8 groups were a fresh round-robin among the 4 qualifiers from that pairing of first-round groups (no results carried over from the group stage, unlike the ODI World Cup's 2007 Super Eight). India advanced ahead of New Zealand in Group E on net run rate, both finishing 2-1; Pakistan finished Group F undefeated. The top 2 from each Super 8 group advanced to the semi-finals.
