Semi-final 1 — 1975 Cricket World Cup

June 18, 1975 · Headingley, Leeds

Result: AUAustralia — Australia won by 4 wickets. ENEngland 93 all out (36.2 overs), AUAustralia 94/6 (28.4 overs). June 18, 1975 · Headingley, Leeds.

One of the great new-ball spells in ODI history: on a green, damp, underprepared Headingley pitch that both captains criticised afterward, Gilmour (playing only his third ODI) took 6/14 off 12 overs to reduce England to 37/7. Australia then slumped to 39/6 chasing just 94 before Gilmour (28*) and Walters (20*) added an unbroken match-winning stand. Ball-faced figures for most England batters beyond Denness are not confirmed to this round's sourcing standard.
