Super Six — 1999 Cricket World Cup
June 13, 1999 · Headingley, Leeds
Result: AUAustralia — Australia won by 5 wickets (2 balls remaining). SASouth Africa 271/7 (50 overs), AUAustralia 272/5 (49.4 overs). June 13, 1999 · Headingley, Leeds.
With Waugh on 56, Herschelle Gibbs caught a return catch at midwicket but dropped it while prematurely celebrating/tossing the ball away; Waugh went on to 120* and this Super Six win over South Africa is what later broke the semi-final tie in Australia's favour on Super Six standings. (The famous line "you've just dropped the World Cup" is widely regarded as an embellishment of what Waugh actually said to Gibbs.)
