LCLeicester City — 1 english top-flight champions (2015-16).
Club history
Leicester City began life in 1884 as Leicester Fosse, founded by former pupils of Wyggeston School and named after the nearby Fosse Way Roman road. The club joined the Football League in 1894 and was renamed Leicester City in 1919, shortly after Leicester was granted official city status. Its home was Filbert Street from 1891 until 2002, when the club moved to a new stadium adjacent to it, initially called the Walkers Stadium and renamed King Power Stadium in 2011 following Thai ownership. The nickname "the Foxes" reflects Leicestershire's traditional association with fox hunting, formalised when a fox motif was adopted for the club crest in 1948.
For most of the twentieth century Leicester was a solid but trophy-light top- and second-flight club, winning three League Cups (1964, 1997, 2000) but losing four FA Cup finals before finally winning the competition in 2021. A brief but painful drop to League One in 2008-09 was reversed with an immediate title-winning promotion. The Srivaddhanaprabha family, via King Power International, took control in 2010, and under their ownership Leicester produced the most improbable achievement in modern football: the 2015-16 Premier League title, won at odds of 5,000-1 under Claudio Ranieri, a season still regarded as one of sport's greatest shocks. Chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha died in a helicopter crash outside the stadium in 2018, deeply affecting the club and city.
More recent years have brought instability: relegation in 2023, an immediate return in 2024, and a further relegation in 2025. Leicester's main rivals are Nottingham Forest, Derby County and Coventry City, reflecting long-standing East Midlands rivalries.
