SLRSt. Louis Rams — 1 super bowl champions (Super Bowl XXXIV - 1999).
Franchise history
The Rams relocated from Los Angeles to St. Louis in 1995 after owner Georgia Frontiere reached a stadium deal with local officials, bringing NFL football back to a city that had lost the Cardinals to Arizona in 1988. The franchise played its home games at the Trans World Dome (later the Edward Jones Dome, then the Dome at America's Center) in downtown St. Louis. The early St. Louis seasons were largely unremarkable, but the team's fortunes changed dramatically in 1999 when an injury to starter Trent Green elevated backup Kurt Warner, a former grocery store stock clerk and Arena Football League player, into the starting role. Under head coach Dick Vermeil and offensive coordinator Mike Martz, Warner teamed with running back Marshall Faulk and receivers Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt to form the "Greatest Show on Turf," one of the most explosive offenses in NFL history, culminating in a Super Bowl XXXIV victory over the Tennessee Titans, capped by Mike Jones's championship-saving tackle of Kevin Dyson at the one-yard line.
The Rams returned to the Super Bowl two seasons later under Martz, losing Super Bowl XXXVI to the underdog New England Patriots in a stunning upset. Warner and Faulk both earned NFL MVP honors during this stretch, and both were later inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. After Martz's departure in 2005, the franchise entered a long competitive decline, posting losing records in nearly every season through the mid-2010s despite drafting stars like Steven Jackson and, in 2010, quarterback Sam Bradford. Amid stadium disputes and dwindling attendance, owner Stan Kroenke (who had taken control of the team in 2010) pursued relocation, and the NFL approved the Rams' return to Los Angeles in January 2016, ending the 21-year St. Louis era.
