Rugby league history
This is Georgia's national football stadium, still colloquially known by its Soviet-era name "Dinamo Stadium" even though its formal name had already changed by the time of its sole rugby league fixture. On 24 July 2005, Georgia beat Serbia 44-12 in front of 8,000 -- reportedly Georgia's first-ever home rugby league international, part of the sport's early development push in the country. The 74,354-capacity stadium vastly dwarfed the crowd it drew for rugby league, a minor sport in Georgia using whichever major football ground was available. This venue is a genuinely separate, third Tbilisi ground from the already-published Locomotiv Stadium/Mikheil Meskhi Stadium entry: those two names refer to the same physical ground (confirmed via a specialist stadium database showing "Mikheil Meskhi Stadium" is also known as "Locomotivi Stadium", inaugurated 1952, capacity approx. 27,223), independently corroborated by Georgia's 26 May 2006 win over the Netherlands being attributed to "Mikheil Meskhi Stadium" by Wikipedia's Georgia national rugby league team article and to "Locomotiv Stadium" by Rugby League Project -- the same match, same score, same attendance, two names for one ground. Dinamo Stadium is unrelated to that pair beyond sharing a city and an era.
