Sir John Guise Stadium

Port Moresby, Central, Papua New Guinea

Sir John Guise Stadium, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea — opened 7 September 1991, 6 rugby league games hosted, home of primarily the PNG national football (soccer) team and an athletics venue; the PNG Hunters (Queensland Cup) used it for rugby league home matches only briefly in 2015-2016, while the code's separate main home ground, the PNG Football Stadium (formerly Lloyd Robson Oval), was itself being rebuilt.

Sourcing caveat: No PNG Kumuls test match or Queensland Cup final was found confirmed at this venue — those are associated with the separate PNG Football Stadium instead. Only 1 of our recorded 6 games could be individually dated (12 June 2015, with its exact score not found); our recorded top crowd of 18,113 could not be independently corroborated by any source checked.

Rugby league history

This is a genuinely different venue from Papua New Guinea's main and historic rugby league home, the PNG Football Stadium, which has hosted the Kumuls (PNG's national team) since 1975 and Rugby League World Cup matches. The PNG Hunters used Sir John Guise Stadium only for a brief 2015-2016 window while their intended home was still being rebuilt, before relocating there once it reopened in February 2016. The stadium also hosted the rugby league Nines tournament at the 2015 Pacific Games (11-12 July 2015), where hosts PNG won the six-nation event undefeated, beating Samoa 38-10 in the final — arguably the venue's most notable rugby league occasion.

Primarily an athletics and football (soccer) venue; hosted the 2015 Pacific Games opening/closing ceremonies, rugby sevens, netball and athletics, and the 2016 OFC Nations Cup.
