Match report
Played at Stade Gilbert Brutus, Perpignan, in front of 10,440. Australia delivered a dominant victory over host nation France, leading 20-2 at halftime and pulling further away in the second half, scoring nine tries to nil against a France side that could only manage a single Bernard Guilhelm goal. Fullback Graham Eadie was the standout, scoring two tries and successfully converting seven of Australia's nine tries, with further tries shared among Steve Rogers, Ray Higgs, John Peard, Lew Platz, Terry Randall, Tom Raudonikis and Johnny Rhodes.
The rout came as Australia, captained by Arthur Beetson, cemented their dominance of the tournament on their way to the world title.
