Club Background
Dewsbury Rugby League Football Club, nicknamed the Rams, was founded in 1875 in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, and was among the founding members of the Northern Rugby Football Union breakaway in 1895. The club has won the Challenge Cup twice (1912 and a wartime final in 1943), the RFL Championship in 1972-73, and several lower-tier titles including League One (2023). Dewsbury play their home matches at the FLAIR Stadium (Owl Lane, Shaw Cross), their home since 1994 after the club's historic Crown Flatt ground was destroyed by fire. For the 2026 season the club competes in the restructured RFL Championship.

Club history
Dewsbury was formed in 1875, reportedly at a meeting at the Little Saddle Inn, and played its first recorded match that November against Heckmondwike Church Society. The club took a tenancy at Crown Flatt in 1876, which remained its home for over a century, and was a founder member of the Northern Rugby Football Union split from the RFU in 1895. Dewsbury won the Challenge Cup for the first time in 1912, beating Oldham 8-5 in the final at Headingley, and claimed a wartime Challenge Cup triumph over Leeds in 1943, played amid wartime restrictions with legs at Crown Flatt and Headingley.
Dewsbury's most celebrated modern-era honour came in 1972-73, when they won the Championship by beating Leeds 22-13 in a play-off final at Odsal Stadium. Crown Flatt, the club's long-time home, was destroyed by fire in 1988; after a period playing at Batley's Mount Pleasant, Dewsbury moved into a new purpose-built stadium on Owl Lane in 1994, later known as the Tetley's Stadium and, since 2023, the FLAIR Stadium under a sponsorship deal.
Since rugby league's move to summer scheduling in the mid-1990s, Dewsbury has largely competed in the lower tiers of the professional pyramid, winning the Northern Ford Premiership in 2000, National League Two in 2006 and Championship One in 2009. More recently the club won the Betfred League One title in 2023 to secure promotion, before being relegated back to League One in 2024. Ahead of the 2026 season, the RFL restructured its second and third tiers into a single 20-club Championship, into which Dewsbury was promoted, restoring the club to the second tier.
Sourcing caveat: The precise scoreline of the second leg of the 1943 wartime Challenge Cup final couldn't be independently confirmed beyond the 16-15 aggregate result, and no sourced figure for total games hosted at the current FLAIR Stadium was found (its own sourced record attendance is 4,068, vs Bradford Bulls, 6 April 2015).
