Swinton — 4 Super League/British top-flight titles on record (most recently 1934-35).
Club Background
Swinton RLFC was founded in 1866 in Swinton, Greater Manchester, growing out of the town's cricket club, and joined the breakaway Northern Union in 1896. The club is one of English rugby league's most decorated, having won six league championships (1926-27, 1927-28, 1930-31, 1934-35, 1962-63 and 1963-64), three Challenge Cups (1899-1900, 1925-26 and 1927-28) and four Lancashire County Cups, including a rare 'All Four Cups' sweep in 1927-28. Renamed Swinton Lions in 1996, the club has played at Heywood Road (the Morson Stadium) in nearby Sale since 2016, sharing the ground with Sale F.C. As of the 2026 season, Swinton Lions compete in the RFL Championship, the sport's second tier.

Club history
Swinton's rugby-playing origins trace to 1866, formed by members of the town's cricket club, initially playing rugby union. Facing the financial pressures affecting many Lancashire clubs of the era, Swinton joined the breakaway Northern Union in 1896, which became rugby league. The club won its first Challenge Cup in 1899-1900 and went on to become one of the dominant forces of the interwar period, claiming league championships in 1926-27, 1927-28, 1930-31 and 1934-35, alongside Challenge Cup wins in 1925-26 (beating Oldham 9-3 at Rochdale's Athletic Grounds) and 1927-28. The 1927-28 side famously won all four available trophies (league championship, Challenge Cup, Lancashire Cup and Lancashire League) — a feat achieved by only one other club in the sport's history.
Swinton added two further league titles in 1962-63 and 1963-64 as part of a strong post-war era, but honours dried up thereafter as the game's balance of power shifted. The club moved grounds several times over its history: from early sites at Burying Lane and Chorley Road, to Station Road (1929-1992), then to Gigg Lane, Bury's football ground, from 1992. Financial difficulties in the early 2000s forced the club into a series of temporary homes for over a decade before it settled at Heywood Road in Sale in 2016, ground-sharing with Sale F.C.
Since the introduction of a divisional structure in the modern era, Swinton has fluctuated between rugby league's second and third tiers, including promotion as League 1 champions in 2011, and more recent cycles of relegation and promotion (relegated 2021, promoted 2022, relegated again in 2024). Rebranded Swinton Lions in 1996, the club competes in the RFL Championship for the 2026 season, based at Heywood Road, and in 2025-26 marked the centenary of its 1925-26 Challenge Cup triumph.
Sourcing caveat: Exact dates/scores for most historic honours beyond the 1925-26 Challenge Cup final (won 9-3 vs Oldham) weren't individually re-verified game-by-game, and no sourced figure for Heywood Road's total games hosted or a rugby-specific record attendance was found.
