Ground facts
| Opened | 1966 or 1980 (The venue's real/full name is "Fletcher's Fields" (plural) -- the singular "Fletcher's Field" used in this site's own data appears to be an informal variant of the same venue, confirmed via Rugby League Project's own results matching the singular-form slug. Its opening year is disputed between sources: Wikipedia's infobox states 1980, while a Goff Rugby Report retrospective on the venue's 2024 closure states the six-club ownership entity (Fletcher's Fields Limited) was established in 1966 and describes the venue as having "served as Ontario's premier rugby venue for 58 years" (1966-2024). No source reconciles the two dates; possibly 1966 marks the land acquisition/ownership-entity formation and 1980 the purpose-built stadium's completion. Neither date is rugby-league-specific -- the venue was built for rugby union and rugby league use didn't begin until 2011.) |

Name history
Rugby league history
Named after Denis Fletcher, an English-born rugby enthusiast who championed collective club ownership of the grounds among Ontario rugby clubs in the mid-1960s. Rugby league's presence was a minor sideline to the venue's primary rugby union role, which over roughly 58 years included Canada national rugby union test matches (vs Argentina, England, USA, Wales, Ireland, Japan) and the 2008 Churchill Cup. The 2011 fixtures were essentially the entirety of the Canada national rugby league team's home programme that year. The City of Markham purchased the property in 2021, and the six-club ownership group's tenure ended after the 2024 season with a farewell "2024 Summer Celebration of Rugby."
