Name history
Rugby league history
One of American sport's most storied stadiums, whose sole rugby league fixture was a standalone international on 28 November 1954: Australia beat New Zealand 28-18 in front of 4,554 fans, organised as part of a Californian promoter's post-World-Cup tour that reportedly lost money and was hampered by fog. It is not listed as an official Test match. The Coliseum's own Wikipedia article does not mention this 1954 fixture at all, its only 'rugby' reference being the later Giltinis rugby union tenancy — a gap filled here by Rugby League Project's own match record and an independent rugby league historian's corroborating account.
Hosted the 1932 and 1984 Summer Olympics (and is scheduled to host a third in 2028), the LA Dodgers' home from 1958-1961 including the 1959 World Series, and — in the modern era — the LA Giltinis of Major League Rugby (2021-22), a rugby union tenancy unrelated to the rugby league match below.
