Rugby league history
Mestsky Stadion is a large multi-purpose municipal stadium in Ostrava, primarily known as the home of football club Banik Ostrava and as an athletics venue hosting the annual Zlata tretra meeting. It hosted rugby union sevens qualifying in 2017 and, separately, two Czech Republic rugby league senior internationals in 2023: a 16-28 loss to Serbia and a 2-36 loss to the Netherlands -- the national federation's occasional use of the large municipal ground for higher-profile fixtures rather than a dedicated rugby league club ground.
