Perry Lakes Stadium

Perth, Perth and Kinross, Scotland

Perry Lakes Stadium, Perth, Scotland — opened 1962, 1 rugby league games hosted, home of None specific -- a multi-purpose athletics/football/concert venue and the administrative HQ for several WA sporting bodies.

Sourcing caveat: This venue's country/region fields are recorded incorrectly (as Scotland) in both our own directory and in Rugby League Project's own database -- a shared data quirk inherited from RLP rather than a mistake introduced independently. The venue described here is genuinely the Western Australian stadium, not a Scottish one.

Ground facts

Opened1962 (Our directory (and Rugby League Project's own venue page, independently confirmed via direct fetch) lists this venue's location as "Perth, Perth and Kinross, Scotland" -- this is a data error, almost certainly Rugby League Project's own geocoding defaulting a bare "Perth" text match to Perth, Scotland rather than Perth, Western Australia. The real venue is unambiguously the well-known stadium in Floreat, Western Australia, built for the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games, closed in mid-2009 when the new WA Athletics Stadium opened nearby, and demolished 2010-2012 (the site was later redeveloped as housing). There is no evidence of any second, genuinely Scottish "Perry Lakes Stadium".)

Name history

    Rugby league history

Perry Lakes Stadium's single recorded rugby league match, on 1 June 1975, was a warm-up fixture ahead of that year's Rugby League World Cup: a touring England side (the Great Britain squad competing under that name for the tournament) beat a Western Australia representative side 40-2 in front of 6,000, independently corroborated by Wikipedia's 1975 Rugby League World Cup article with identical date, score and attendance. This sits within a period when touring British and French rugby league sides occasionally played exhibition matches against local WA sides to help develop the code in Western Australia, historically a rugby league minnow state dominated by Australian rules football.
