Name history
Rugby league history
Stade Georges Lyvet is a municipal multi-sport ground in Villeurbanne, on the edge of Lyon, named after Georges Lyvet (alias Jean Rolland), a French Resistance fighter killed in 1944. It is the home ground of Lyon Villeurbanne XIII and hosted a full France national rugby league international against the USSR in 1991, consistent with the two matches on file here spanning 1991-1992. Local rugby union authorities reportedly pressured the council against allowing rugby league to use the venue in its early history, but the council relented.
