Ground facts
| Opened | Not documented (Sources conflict significantly and cannot be reconciled: English Wikipedia states the stadium opened in 1937, while French Wikipedia and StadiumDB both state it was built in the late 1960s. If the later date is correct, the current stadium could not have hosted the 1949 and 1953 rugby league matches recorded below -- Rugby League Project's own venue page, independently re-checked via a direct fetch, does attribute all three recorded matches to this specific venue page rather than a generic 'Cannes' location, but this does not resolve which physical ground existed at the time. This is disclosed as a genuine, unresolved discrepancy rather than assumed either way.) |

Name history
Rugby league history
A large, multi-purpose municipal stadium in Cannes, primarily the home of football club AS Cannes, also previously used for rugby union (discontinued mid-1970s) and athletics. Its rugby league history comprises two heavy defeats for a local Cannes side against touring Australian Kangaroos sides (1949 and 1953) and a 2000 France vs Russia international friendly that France won 82-0 (crowd 1,500, the top figure recorded on this site, independently corroborated by Wikipedia's Russia national rugby league team results). Given the unresolved opening-date discrepancy above, it is possible the 1949/1953 fixtures were played at an earlier ground on or near this site rather than the stadium as it exists today.
