1926 NFL Season — Final Standings

Final standings for the NFL's largest-ever season, a record 22 teams fielding squads (a mark not matched again until after the 1970 AFL-NFL merger), driven in part by the league adding franchises to compete with a short-lived rival American Football League formed by Red Grange's manager C.C. Pyle, with Grange himself starring for the rival league's New York Yankees. The Rock Island Independents defected from the NFL to the rival league for the season. Frankford's 14 wins set a league record that stood until the 1968 Colts won 15, capping a dominant championship season; the rival AFL folded after just one season, and the NFL sharply contracted the following year to cut the weakest, most travel-heavy franchises.
