Name history
Rugby league history
College Field was the original home ground of Merthyr Tydfil, one of several short-lived South Wales clubs that briefly joined the Northern Union in its Edwardian-era expansion into Wales. Only two matches are recorded here, both Challenge Cup ties: a 33-5 win over Whitehaven Recreation in 1908 and a 7-12 defeat to Ebbw Vale in 1910, before the club moved its main fixtures to Rhydycar.
