Rugby league history
A community sports ground in Caegarw, near Mountain Ash and Merthyr Tydfil, built on former colliery land (the original pit winding wheel is preserved as a monument in the car park). South Wales Scorpions played 26 fixtures here across three seasons (2014 Championship 1, 2015 League 1 and Challenge Cup, and 2016 League 1 and League 1 Shield), including a 2015 Challenge Cup tie against York City. Attendances were modest throughout, from around 150 up to 410 (v Oxford, 21 Aug 2016, the highest recorded here).
Primarily rugby union (Mountain Ash RFC's home ground); the site also has an international-standard bowls arena.
