Rugby league history

Castres is a rugby union stronghold with essentially no rugby league heritage of its own -- both recorded matches at this ground were one-off imports, arranged two decades apart for very different reasons. The first, on 5 November 2006, was a Federation Shield fixture (a four-nation tournament run alongside that year's Tri-Nations) in which France lost 10-48 to Tonga in front of 8,437, played while the ground was still called Stade Pierre-Antoine. The second, on 4 July 2026, was the first-ever "French Magic Weekend": with the main Super League Magic Weekend staged at Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool, the two French Super League clubs played their own satellite fixture at home rather than travel to England, with Toulouse Olympique beating Catalans Dragons 60-18 in front of 5,483 -- contributing a little under 7% of that year's combined Magic Weekend attendance. A small amateur rugby league club, Castres XIII Rugby League Knights (est. 2013), plays locally but has no connection to either recorded fixture at this ground.
