Name history
Rugby league history
Sydenham Park's five recorded matches span a quarter-century of Canterbury rugby league, 1919 to 1944. The standout fixture, and the ground's top crowd of 7,200, was a full New Zealand vs Australia international on 30 August 1919, which New Zealand won 26-10. Four provincial matches followed across the following decades, pitting Canterbury against Auckland (1921), West Coast (1923 and 1944) and Otago (1933). We could not find any secondary source naming a venue for the 1919 test -- Wikipedia's coverage of that tour names other New Zealand grounds for its other fixtures but is silent on this one -- so this match's location rests on Rugby League Project alone, though nothing contradicts it either.
