Rugby league history
The stadium has been the New Zealand Warriors' home ground since the club joined the competition in 1995, and set the club's record home crowd, 32,174, for a 1995 clash with Illawarra. As Ericsson Stadium it hosted the 1997 World Club Championship final (Brisbane Broncos def. Hunter Mariners) and most of the 1999 Rugby League Tri-Nations, including the final. It also hosted a 2017 Rugby League World Cup semi-final in which Tonga narrowly lost 20-18 to England in front of 30,003. In the 2025 NRL finals series it hosted an Elimination Final on 13 September in which the Penrith Panthers beat the Warriors 24-8, ending New Zealand's finals campaign.
