Rugby league use began in 1910 (per Wikipedia's season articles), though Rugby League Project's own venue page records only 3 representative/first-class matches, all from 1911 -- likely because its database is scoped to representative fixtures rather than every local club game, an inference rather than something explicitly stated by Rugby League Project.) |

Name history
Rugby league history
An Auckland North Shore horse-racing venue that briefly hosted rugby league as an occasional alternative to the main Auckland ground. Contemporary newspaper accounts describe the ground in poor condition, muddy and waterlogged, and access required a boat crossing to Devonport followed by a long walk or bus ride, which reportedly discouraged spectators. Despite this, it hosted representative fixtures including Auckland's 11-3 win over New Zealand (1911, crowd 700, the top figure recorded on this site) and a win over Hawke's Bay Maori. The racecourse no longer exists today; no exact closure date was found. No capacity, floodlight or formal playing-surface information beyond contemporary condition reports was found.
