Name history
Rugby league history
A King Country, New Zealand venue whose recorded rugby league history is a brief early-1920s window before the district's loyalties settled firmly on rugby union. All three recorded matches are King Country/district representative fixtures: a Great Britain (Northern Union) touring-side match in 1920 (crowd 4,000, independently corroborated in detail by Wikipedia's 1920 Great Britain Lions tour article, including try-scorers), an NSW touring-side match in 1922, and an inter-district Bay of Plenty vs Auckland fixture later the same year. The ground went on to become the long-standing home of King Country representative rugby union for decades, hosting international touring sides (Fiji, the British Lions, France, Australia, Scotland, Romania) through the 20th century, before falling into disrepair by the 2000s and being restored by local volunteers in 2016. No capacity, floodlight or playing-surface information specific to its rugby league era was found.
