Name history
Rugby league history
Victoria Park was the original home of West Coast representative rugby league, hosting the code's first-ever match on the Coast in 1915 and its biggest touring-side fixtures — against England, Great Britain and Australia — through to 1950. It was then superseded by Wingham Park, Greymouth, which became the West Coast rugby league team's long-term home from the 1950s onward and, in 1954, hosted a full Kiwis v Great Britain test match while reportedly the smallest venue ever to host a rugby league test. That 1954 test was not played at Victoria Park itself — every match recorded here was a West Coast provincial side against touring opposition, not a full New Zealand international.
