1932 NFL Season — Final Standings
Final standings for a league contracted to just 8 teams, the fewest in NFL history to that point, and a season decided in dramatic fashion: the Bears and Spartans finished the schedule tied atop the standings, forcing the first postseason tiebreaker game in NFL history. Severe blizzards forced the game indoors to Chicago Stadium on a cramped 80-by-45-yard dirt field with improvised rules (goalposts moved to the goal line, hash marks introduced); Chicago won 9-0, a result folded directly into these final standings (unlike later eras, where the postseason is kept separate from the regular-season table). The game's popularity, and the awkward tie-based process it resolved, directly led the league to adopt a permanent Eastern/Western Division split with a scheduled championship game the following year. The Boston Braves, in their debut NFL season, would be renamed the Redskins for 1933.
