Club Background
The South Queensland Crushers were admitted as an ARL/NSWRL expansion club in 1992 and began playing in the 1995 premiership, based at Lang Park (later Suncorp Stadium), the ground the Brisbane Broncos had vacated in 1992, with the aim of giving south-east Queensland a second top-flight team. They struggled from the start to draw support away from the already-dominant Broncos, finishing last or second-last in most of their three seasons despite financial relief exceeding half a million dollars from the ARL and a private benefactor in 1996.

Club history
The South Queensland Crushers were an ARL/NSWRL expansion club, admitted in 1992 alongside three other new sides, and began playing in the 1995 premiership. They were based at Lang Park (now Suncorp Stadium), the ground the Brisbane Broncos had vacated in 1992, and were intended to give south-east Queensland a second top-flight team.
The Crushers struggled from the outset to draw support away from the already-dominant Broncos, finished last or second-last in most of their three seasons, and accumulated heavy losses despite financial relief exceeding half a million dollars from the ARL and a private benefactor during 1996. Their difficulties were compounded by the wider Super League War: when Super League and the ARL reunified for 1998, the merged competition needed to shrink from 22 clubs to 14, and the underperforming, debt-laden Crushers were an obvious casualty. The club played its final match in 1997 and was placed into liquidation in December 1997 owing more than A$3 million.
