Rugby league history
ANZAC Park, Gundagai, was the home ground of the Gundagai club in the Maher Cup competition, the long-running regional challenge-cup competition contested among South West Slopes and Riverina towns in New South Wales. Rugby League Project's results page lists Gundagai home fixtures there from 21 September 1921 (a 12-0 Maher Cup win over Tumut) through to 7 June 1969 (a 9-22 loss to Wagga Kangaroos), almost entirely Maher Cup matches, plus one tour fixture: Riverina 30-14 the USA on 22 July 1953 during the American All Stars tour, which drew a recorded crowd of 2,560 — larger than any Maher Cup crowd figure found for the ground, the highest of which was 4,000 for Gundagai's 6-4 win over Cootamundra on 28 September 1927.
