Name history
- Lang Park — 1941–2001
Rugby league history
For decades before the Brisbane Broncos existed, Lang Park was the traditional home of Brisbane and Queensland representative rugby league, hosting the inaugural State of Origin match on 8 July 1980 — Queensland's famous win under captain-coach Arthur Beetson — and becoming Wally Lewis's home ground through the famous 'Cauldron' atmosphere of 1980s Origin football. The Broncos played their first five seasons there, from their 1988 foundation until a sponsorship clash between the club's backer, Powers Brewery, and the Queensland Rugby League's sponsor, XXXX, forced their move to QEII Stadium for 1993. The ground was demolished and rebuilt as Suncorp Stadium, reopening in 2003.
