Rugby league history
A small rural New South Wales country-town ground associated with a now largely historical local rugby league club, most notable for its participation in the Maher Cup challenge-cup competition (a prestigious contest among Riverina-area country clubs) in the 1920s-30s: Barmedman lost its inaugural home Maher Cup challenge to Temora 26-5 in 1926, defeated Junee before 2,500 spectators in 1929, and a 1930 Maher Cup challenge drew a crowd over 2,500 and a record gate of £240. A 1921 Middlemiss Cup match was noted as played at 'C. Pilon's paddock' — possibly a precursor ground, or a different site; not established either way. Whether the ground still hosts rugby league in the modern era was not confirmed, though a 'Barmedman Community Recreation Grounds' community Facebook page suggests the site likely still exists as a general sporting venue today.
