Birchgrove Oval #2
Sydney (Birchgrove), New South Wales, Australia
Birchgrove Oval #2, Sydney (Birchgrove), Australia — opened unknown, 9 rugby league games hosted, home of none confirmed — a rotating set of NSWRFL Reserve Grade district sides.
Sourcing caveat: Rugby League Project's own venue database, independently confirmed via direct WebFetch, lists three separate Birchgrove entries: the main 'Birchgrove Oval' (373 games, 1908-2009 — Balmain's long-time home and the site of rugby league's inaugural 1908 round in Australia), plus this 'Birchgrove Oval #2' (9 games, 1908-1914) and a further 'Birchgrove Oval #3' (7 games, 1908-1909). All three share the same location, 'Sydney (Birchgrove)', and every match at #2 and #3 is a lower-tier NSWRFL Reserve Grade fixture from the same 1908-1914 window — while some Reserve Grade fixtures from that same era also appear within the main entry. No RLP text was found explaining the numbered split, and no independent source (Wikipedia's Birchgrove Park article included) describes more than one named playing field within the Birchgrove Park reserve. The most plausible explanation is that #2 and #3 are fragmentary or duplicate RLP records for early Reserve Grade fixtures at the same physical Birchgrove Oval, rather than genuinely distinct grounds — but this is disclosed as an unconfirmed inference, not settled fact, and the entry is kept separate here in line with RLP's own database structure.

Rugby league history
A Rugby League Project database entry, alongside a similarly unexplained 'Birchgrove Oval #3', most likely representing early NSWRFL Reserve Grade fixtures played at the same Birchgrove Oval that hosted rugby league's inaugural 1908 round and served as Balmain's long-time home ground — see the separate main Birchgrove Oval entry for that fuller history. Nine Reserve Grade matches are recorded here between 1908 and 1914, involving Balmain, Easts, Glebe, Norths, Souths, Wests, Newtown, Annandale, Sydney and Marrickville reserve sides; no crowd figures survive for any of them.
