Name history
Rugby league history
Brighton Oval, in the Brighton-le-Sands/Rockdale district of southern Sydney, hosted three NSWRFL Reserve Grade matches in 1911, only three years after rugby league's 1908 foundation in New South Wales, all involving the Banksia club against Sydney, Marrickville, and South Sydney Federals (the last forfeited by Banksia). This places it among the earliest rugby league grounds used in the code's first years in Sydney; no matches are recorded here after 1911, suggesting the ground's rugby league use, or Banksia's participation at this level, was short-lived.
