Rugby league history
Runaway Bay Seagulls have won four Gold Coast Rugby League premierships (1997, 2000, 2018 and 2020, the last two played as grand finals at other venues), and produced NRL players including Scott Sattler, Jarrod Wallace and Jesse Arthars. In 2021 the ground briefly became an unlikely temporary home for a Papua New Guinea-based professional club shut out of its own country by pandemic travel restrictions.
