Cootamundra Sports Ground
Cootamundra, New South Wales, Australia
Cootamundra Sports Ground, Cootamundra, Australia — opened Not confirmed, 3 rugby league games hosted, home of South West NSW / Southern NSW (NSWRFL Country representative side).
Sourcing caveat: A specialist local history site (mahercup.com.au) puts the 1928 match's crowd at "over 7,000" rather than Rugby League Project's recorded 8,000 -- both figures are plausible period newspaper estimates and neither could be independently confirmed as more accurate, so the discrepancy is noted rather than resolved.
Ground facts
| Opened | Not confirmed (No precise founding date found. A specialist local rugby league history site (Maher Cup) identifies the ground's actual local name as "Fisher Park", with "Cootamundra Sports Ground" appearing to be a generic descriptor rather than its proper name -- the site is still active today as part of the Cootamundra Sporting Precinct (alongside neighbouring Nicholson Park), having received a lighting upgrade in 2020 and continuing to host junior and senior rugby league, rugby union, cricket, touch football and netball.) |

Name history
Rugby league history
Cootamundra's three recorded matches, spanning 1924 to 1956, are all touring-team fixtures against NSW Country representative sides. The largest crowd, 8,000, came on 30 May 1928 when a South West NSW side drew 14-14 with a touring Great Britain (England) side -- a match that featured a young Eric Weissel, the South-Western Districts player who went on to become one of the sport's most celebrated figures in Australia. Two further fixtures bookend that peak: a 1924 loss to a touring England side (5,500) and a 1956 win over the touring New Zealand Kiwis (6,000).
