Corbett Park

Brisbane (Grange), Queensland, Australia

Corbett Park, Brisbane (Grange), Australia — opened Not confirmed (in use by 1964), 154 rugby league games hosted, home of None (ground redeveloped 1988–89; formerly Past Brothers/Past Christian Brothers).

Sourcing caveat: Games-hosted figures differ slightly by source: Redcap's BRL gives '146 games, 1964-1988' for Corbett Park, while this project's own directory gives 154 — likely reflecting different scope (e.g. whether pre-season/reserve-grade fixtures are counted). Not resolved here; both figures are plausible.

Name history

  • Corbett Park — 1964–1988 (as a rugby league ground)

Rugby league history

Corbett Park, on Agincourt Street in the Grange, Brisbane, was the long-time home ground of the Past Brothers (Past Christian Brothers) rugby league club in the Brisbane Rugby League (BRL) competition, built on land previously occupied by Hickey's Dairy, a Jersey stud farm. A second playing field was added in the 1980s, and the venue also hosted international touring-side training sessions, including France's and Great Britain's 1977 World Cup squads. Brothers won a premiership in 1987, but the club's leagues club fell into severe financial difficulty in 1988–89 and was forced to close, ending the club's tenure at Corbett Park; the South Queensland Crushers briefly used its training facilities before their 1995 ARL debut. The leagues club and playing fields were subsequently redeveloped as residential housing (the 'Hermitage Gardens' and 'Grange Residences' developments), and no plaque marks the site's rugby league history today. A small reserve still carrying the Corbett Park name survives nearby as a pedestrian corridor along Kedron Brook, but is no longer a sporting venue.
