Name history
Rugby league history
Davies Park on Doyle Street, Mareeba, Queensland is a genuinely distinct venue from the better-known Davies Park in Brisbane's West End (also known as Bill Tyquin Oval, home of Souths Logan Magpies) -- confirmed independently via Rugby League Project's own separate venue listings for the two grounds. It has been the home ground of the Mareeba Gladiators, formed in 1980 within the Cairns District Rugby League competition, nicknamed 'the Colosseum' after an 18-game winning streak around 2000-2001. It has also occasionally hosted Queensland Cup fixtures for North Queensland representative sides such as the Cyclones and NQ Young Guns.
