Rugby league history
Fisher Park in Cootamundra, New South Wales, has been the traditional home ground of Cootamundra's rugby league club and a significant venue in the Group 9 (South-Western Districts) competition and the long-running Maher Cup challenge competition, which ran there from the 1920s into the 1950s. The ground drew notably large crowds for a country venue — over 7,000 attended an England touring side's 1928 visit — and hosted other touring-side matches, including a 1932 Queensland side and, per local history sources, a 1925 All Blacks (New Zealand rugby league) tour match and a 1950 Great Britain Lions tour match. Cootamundra continued to play first-grade fixtures there at least through the Maher Cup's early-1950s era.
