Ground facts
| Opened | unknown (This site's underlying venue data lists the area as Cairns (Cooktown), but Cooktown is a genuinely separate, fairly remote town roughly 169km by road from Cairns (around a 3-3.5 hour drive), not a Cairns suburb -- independently confirmed via multiple distance calculators. No construction or opening date is documented for the oval itself; a 2019 upgrade (irrigation, change rooms) is a renovation, not the ground's origin.) |

Name history
Rugby league history
John Street Oval is Cooktown's principal sporting field on Cape York, home to the local junior rugby league club, but it has twice punched above its weight by hosting Queensland's second-tier statewide competition as part of the Queensland Rugby League's regional Country Week programme: a 2018 Intrust Super Cup fixture (Northern Pride 34-24 Ipswich Jets) and a 2024 Hostplus Cup fixture (Northern Pride 32-12 Wynnum-Manly), both independently confirmed against secondary match reports. It has also hosted visits from NRL Immortals for junior rugby league promotion.
